The Return of a Legend

For the gamers among you, you may have heard of the mysterious project The Phantom Pain. While it maybe confused most for a few minutes, it soon became clear it was some manifestation of Metal Gear Solid 5.
Well yesterday at GDC it was properly announced that Metal Gear Solid 5 would consist of The Phantom Pain and the previously announced Ground Zeroes.
As a fan, I am excited. I have loved the Metal Gear Solid games for a long time, I understand that their quirky style isn't for everybody, but I enjoy it. The previous games have had some of the most memorable moments of gaming for me, and I expect nothing less for this game.
Also announced was that David Hayter would not be returning to his iconic role of Snake/Big Boss, whilst sad news, they did show off in the gameplay trailer that your companion (at least for a little while) would be voiced by Jack Bauer himself, Keifer Sutherland. I frikkin love that guy, so in my eyes it can only get better.
Anyway, I'll post the video below, hopefully for those of you who aren't fans of this game, maybe this will sway you somewhat, if not, then enjoy the song at least.

Speaking of something I mentioned a few weeks ago...

Erhmahgerd two updates in one day! Anyway this one will be quick, but I just watched the new Zero Punctuation review of Sim City and thought, "You know who would like to watch this? Me! Me and anyone who reads this but probably doesn't read this."

zero-punctuation reviews SimCity

It begins

So I just came across a 17 minute gameplay video for the new Battlefield 4 game. I've never played any of the previous games, not because I have a favoritism towards the Call of Duty franchise (although I have played most of the current gen COD games), but because I just never got around to playing it. I always planned to pick up Battlefield 3 after a while and blast through the single player campaign, but then I heard that it was quite unmemorable so I just gave up on it.
But today, after watching this video I have to ask, did Battlefield 3 look that good? If it did, then I have no idea why I wouldn't have played it just to look at the environments. With the fourth game looking astounding, I can't see any reason for it not being a day one purchase, especially if it comes out on the next gen xbox.
After watching the demo, I stupidly decided to venture into the comments, and as usual they were full of idiotic negativity. My favourites amongst the bunch were the people who whine about the reuse of some object models, spouting things like "lazy development" and "disappointing". Clearly these people have never taken a stab at any type of artistic project. The use (or not use as they could have just used objects similar to Battlefield 3) of previous objects are hardly a make or break deal.
Anyway, the vid is below for those interested. Don't forget to buy my t shirts so I can get this game when it comes out

a quick update

Its been a week since my last update, and since I promised myself that I would keep updating this blog regardless of whether anyone reads it I thought it best to make a small announcement.
So for the next two weeks I am on my easter break, so I have gone back to my hometown Scarborough to relax and hang out with friends and family. It won't all be fun and games though as I have to get a presentation, proposal and poetry assignment done.
Anyway, I've recently had some interest from women about my t shirts, so when I get back to Manchester I'll be spending some time working on those.
If anyone has any suggestions for women (or mens) t shirts, drop a comment below!

Side Effects

So last night, I didn't get to see It's a good day to Die Hard, instead I watched Side Effects. I've got to admit, I was a little drunk when I watched it, and sat on comfortable chairs did little to keep me awake. But from what I saw and fully paid attention to, Side Effects was really good. If you are an aspiring psychiatrist I would maybe avoid watching it, as the plot revolves around a psychiatrist and his patient, and let's just say, things don't go too well for them.

We built SimCity on rock and roll

So I've been thinking about getting the new SimCity game, regardless of the problems that arose from the troublesome launch, I'd still have to wait for the mac port later this year. I've been playing the app game Megapolis, which is essentially the simcity app for cheap people. It's good, but with the whole micro-transactions thing cropping up everywhere, it kinda makes playing that game for a long time hard, unless you're willing to put an awful lot of money into it, which as a student, I am not.
In other news, I recently bought a metric fucktonne of graphic novels in preparation for my creative project. Whilst it's not due till september and I'm still undecided on doing a kickstarter for it, I thought it best to do a little research, since my knowledge on graphic novels is woefully lacking for someone planning to create one.
I've yet to start some of the other tasks I need to get done before then, and I keep dodging real work with side projects (cue the dragon picture below) so it will probably be a while before I have any news (for those of you that have accidentally stumbled across this blog and haven't yet figured out how to escape it) on the kickstarted project. I would love to do it as it would be such an achievement for the year, but I've got no idea how to figure out the costs of shipping rewards and I'm keep finding other thing to do instead of doing that now (hence this blog update).
Anyway, hopefully I'll be going to see Die Hard 5 tonight. I know it's probably a terrible movie, but I love over-the-top stuff like that. I'm a massive fanboy of the fast and furious films and I await the sixth in that installation later this year.
Anyway, I reckon this is probably much longer than anyone would care to read, so I'll be going now to occupy myself with some mindless task.
Toodles.

have a dragon

What's up internet! How are you? Happy, sad, a bit of both, neither of either, other?
Whatever your mood, have a dragon.
You've earned it.

Return of the one hit wonder....

Unlike most people, I genuinely enjoyed Gangnam Style. i came across it long before it reached number one everywhere and i still smile when i hear it today, but it is clear that it is a fluke. Sadly, PSY has dreamed like all the other one-hitters has announced a follow up.
So come mid April, we shall see if PSY can strike gold twice, and to be honest, I kinda hope he can

New tomb

I picked up the new tomb raider game and I've got to say, I'm really enjoying it. Whilst its a far cry from the previous entries, and having taken more than a few cues from uncharted, the refreshed Lara is exactly that, refreshed. Gone are the days when she was just a pair of tits jumping between ledges, now Lara is a young woman, and it works superbly for her.
But with the new Lara comes a problem, her first kill. With games like this and far cry 3, there inevitably comes a time when the character is forced to kill, and unlike far cry, I feel like Lara's first time is handled well, and unlike far cry's Jason Brody, Lara recognises the horrors that taking a life wasn't actually that hard.
Anyway, I haven't yet finished the game, but I've yet to find much to fault, so if you enjoyed uncharted, I would definitely recommend Tomb Raider

It's a disaspace 3

So I finally finished Dead Space 3. Overall I would say I enjoyed it, whilst it is nowhere near as scary as the first game, I would say it far surpasses the second. With Isaac now headed to the Ice planet of Volar something something, the different environments give the game the fresh feel that the second forgot to. The main problem I had though, was that to replace the terrifying corridors of the first, now the giant open blizzards have been inundated with monsters that simply sprint into your personal space. It isn't scary, its just very annoying.
I've read that people complained a lot about the weapon modifications, but it didn't bother me. I just see it as a step in the right direction, giving players even more chance to make their playing experience their own. I understand that people are annoyed that the ammo has become a singular type throughout all guns, the thought that you must always save ammo for the best guns to use on the toughest enemies definitely added tension, but over the past few years, I've noticed that my attitude to games has changed. Where once I would play to challenge myself, now I play for story, and the quicker I can experience it, the better. I know I'm in the minority of gamers with this, but for this reason, I shunned the harder modes and relished the singular ammo types.
Overall, I enjoyed Dead Space 3, and I look forward to seeing where the franchise goes next. But if you are playing games for the challenge, be prepared to find a much more relaxed experience with this.

Last night I watched a small film called "It's a disaster". When four couples meet up for their weekly couples brunch,  the group discover that a group of dirty bombs have been detonated in the city. I won't spoil anything, but if you like black comedy, then you should certainly give this a watch.
