Wish I Was Here kickstarter

You know Zach Braff? JD from Scrubs? Well he's finally getting back into making films. For any of his fans out there who know Garden State, then you'll know he can make pretty fantastic films.
When he made Garden State, he was funded solely by one guy who happened to like Scrubs and thought he could make a good film, and now he's going to the popular crowd sourcing website kickstarter to ask you to fund his next film.
I personally like kickstarter, I think it's a genius way of both disseminating your work, and funding your dreams. I'm still planning on using it when I get underway with my graphic novel.
I'm a massive fan of Zach Braff, last year he did a play in Manchester and I immediately bought tickets, then, worrying that I hadn't bought the tickets, I bought another pair. The play was fantastic.
With it being kickstarter, there are a lot of rewards, t shirts, early screenings, etc. For $100 dollars, you can go and see the film WITH Braff. If I wasn't so desperately poor, I certainly would have gone for it.
Anyway, for those who aren't fans, or haven't seen anything of his other than Scrubs, I highly recommend backing the project, even if it's just a couple of quid. The man is hilarious, and I have absolute faith in him producing more A++ work.
If you want to back him, or just watch the funny video he made for it, then click HERE
My best wishes to Zach Braff, I hope the project is funded and I can avidly await it's release.

Picatures

So I promised some game characters, so have game characters. There will be more soon

Mother Father Gentleman

PSY has returned. The new song "Gentleman' has already had about 18 million views and I've got to say, it ain't half bad. I was one of the few people who genuinely never got sick of Gangnam Style, and I was quite worried that his follow up would flop. But the guy has played to his strengths, the tune is catchy and the video is silly. So maybe this is only the beginning of his reign over the charts. I certainly rather back it than the "Ding dong the witch is dead" jab at Thatcher.
Anyway, last night I went to see Tom Cruise's new film "Oblivion". I'd seen trailers of the film all over the TV in the weeks before its release, and they did a fantastic job at not spoiling the plot of the film. After seeing the trailers, I thought I had built up an idea of the plot, in which Tom Cruise gets captured early on and starts to bond with his captors as he understands their plight, and whilst that is sort of the case, there are many plot twists and surprises that I never saw coming. It left a lasting effect on me, I spend the rest of the evening and much of this morning pondering over it. It's the sort of film you can't help but want to re-watch, just to see if there is anything you overlooked the first time. The films only let down is that the characters never really get fleshed out. Game of Thrones's Jaime Lannister pops up as this crazy sniper who mistrusts Tom Cruise, but you never find out why. Just like you never find out why some of the characters that capture Tom Cruise have strange names. The film is based on a book, but having never read it I couldn't say how much it is based on it. But I imagine the characters names are explained in that, for those interested in finding out more.
On a final note, I've been doing a few drawings of random video game characters, and when I have a few more done I'll post them up.
So tata, and have some new PSY

Bromageddon 3: return of the bromance

M'colleague and I just powered through the new Army of Two game. A couple years ago I picked up the first game and we had a blast upgrading our guns into gold plated murder machines, then when the second game came out we did it all over again.
So when the third game came out, it was only natural that we would get that too. AoT3 feels both very similar and yet very different to the others. Instead of playing as Rios and Salem you now control Alpha and Bravo, a move that upset me more than I expected. My friend and I, we were Rios and Salem, we experienced what they did over the two games, so to take up as two newcomers was a sad change for us. Not to mention what happens to Rios and Salem throughout the course of the third game. I shan't spoil anything but we were left feeling somewhat betrayed.
But we weren't expecting a class A story from this, we wanted silly over-the-top guns and more enemies than you can shake a warehouse full of sticks at, and by heck did it deliver. If you want pure fun in your gaming experience, look no further. AoT3 seems to have taken cues from fellow EA IP Dead Space. More than once did we both laugh as our enemies were literally ripped to shreds by a flaming shotgun shell or an exploding LMG bullet.
Army of Two three might not win any awards, and it won't turn the heads of the story hungry gamer, but for those amongst us who just want to sit back with a couple of beers and a good friend, this is the game for you.
After we finished the campaign in around 10 hours (we died quite a bit) we were both satisfied, too often do games forget their roots by the third iteration, and it was nice to see a game that can still make grown men giggle at its contents.
8/10

A sad farewell

I just found out that the company that turned me towards gaming, the one and only Lucas Arts, has been shut down just months after Disney took over.
This comes as a shock for me, not only because Lucas Arts had two solid looking Star Wars games in the mix, but also because they are the developers of my favourite game of all time.
Monkey Island.
Whilst this doesn't mean the end of either of the Star Wars games or the Monkey Island franchise (creator Ron Gilbert has frequently expressed interest in acquiring that from Disney) it is a great shame to see it gone. I remember my father showing me the first Monkey Island game when I was a kid, and over the constant replays of that game, I saw the Lucas Arts logo almost every day for at least a year. It became a part of the person I wanted to be, I wanted to stand amongst the giants who had created gaming perfection and become one of them.
Now that Ron Gilbert has moved on from Tim Schafer's Double Fine company I still reckon that if Ron got the IP from Disney he would return to Tim and his point and click studio (by which time hopefully the world is once again in love with the point and click thanks to Tim's kickstarted "Broken Age") and make more beautiful Monkey Island madness.
But I guess this is just the life we all live in, nothing is forever, not even Lucas Arts.
Farewell, you magnificent beast

The Walking Thrones

So last night aired the season finale to The Walking Dead and the season premiere to Game of Thrones. Two fantastic shows, in my opinion. The Walking Dead passed the torch of Sunday night entertainment over to Game of Thrones.
Frankly I was more excited to TWD, mainly because during GOT's hiatus I caught up with the next book which this season is based on, and with TWD's steady departure from that of the comic book's storyline I was eager to see what would happen. I shan't spoil anything for those who haven't watched the episode or any of the season, but if you have read the comic books, be prepared for things to go down a little differently. It was a nice change, so many big surprises during the season were lost to me thanks to the equally fantastic graphic novels, so to see Rick and the gang encounter things differently I was left with genuine excitement for what is next to come.
Game of Thrones, which this season picks up with the third book (or first half of it at least), was unsurprisingly amazing. When I watched the previous seasons, I had not read anything by George R R Martin, so to come to the third season with a little extra knowledge (I listened to the audiobook whilst I drew and therefore didn't pick up all of what was going on) was a nice change, to see certain scenes changed slightly was interesting and it gave me more insight into new characters.
I'm glad GOT is back, and I can't wait to see how certain game changing events will look on the screen.

PS, anyone who enjoys Rooster Teeth should hop over there and wish them a happy 10 year anniversary and be on the look out for any exciting announcements
